2013 Chrysler 200 convertible, sir

philadelphia-car-dealer-2013-Chrysler-200-convertable
From stltoday.com:
In a classic “Simpsons” episode, Homer objects when his wife wants to leave a ritzy private club because she’s uncomfortable with all the high-brow snootiness. “But, Marge,” Homer protests, “it’s the first time anyone’s ever called me ‘sir’ without adding ‘you’re making a scene.’ ”

I can relate.

During our recent stint with the 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited convertible, the surprising elegance of this affordably priced drop-top drew a bevy of gushing compliments. Among them was one from a young lady strolling past our top-down 200:

“I’d sure love to have your car, sir.”

2013 Chrysler Town & Country: Minivan Popularity Continues

2013 Chrysler Town & Country
From philly.com:
Thirty years ago, Chrysler’s tinkers put a van body on a car-like front-drive platform and the modern minivan was born.

A flexible beast of burden good at hauling both people and cargo, the Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth minivans became a big hit in suburbia – and thus played a large role in the company’s escape from insolvency. Their considerable profitability was why the folks at Chrysler called them “the crown jewels.”

Indeed, Chrysler gets more than a third of the apple. It gets more than half. U.S. sales of Chrysler’s three minivans -  Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan and a pure cargo variant called the Ram Truck Cargo Van – totaled 260,287 last year. That’s almost 16 percent of Chrysler’s total vehicle sales for 2012, which was 1.61 million.

The minivan has been able to stay in the half million-per-year sales range, in Velisek’s view, because of the functionality edge it holds over crossovers. Simply put, it’s roomier than most crossovers. I can’t think of a crossover that will carry a 4-by-8 sheet of plywood.

The Chrysler Town & Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan utilize the same architecture and mechanicals. The difference is in their amenities and price. The Dodge has a base price of $19,995, which is rather remarkable for a minivan that has 144 cubic feet of cargo space, gets good pep from its 3.6-liter V-6, and boasts EPAs of 25 m.p.g. on the highway.

The Town & Country, while it uses the same bones, the same 280-horsepower Pentastar V-6, and the same six-speed automatic, is markedly more upscale. The base Touring model starts at $30,395, and the top-of-the-line Limited opens at $40,395. The middle-of-the-pack Touring-L that I spent a recent week in based at $33,395.

New Documentary Focuses on Tale of Hemingway’s 1955 Chrysler New Yorker

From edmunds.com:
A 1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Convertible that once belonged to author Ernest Hemingway is being restored by a museum located at his former home near Havana. Actor David Soul is helping with the restoration, which is being captured for a documentary film.

What happened to the car after Hemingway’s death reads like a novel. His driver hid it for a time; then the New Yorker ended up with the author’s doctor and his family for a number of years. After that it passed through several other owners and disappeared. In 2010, rusted and topless, the car re-emerged, its authenticity apparently verified by information on an insurance certificate in Hemingway’s name.

Chrysler Group Named “Corporation of the Year” by the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

  • Award recognizes Company’s outstanding commitment to supplier diversity and the inclusion of Hispanic-owned businesses in the Company’s supply base
  • Since 1983, the Chrysler Group has purchased more than $47 billion from minority-owned suppliers

The Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC) has named Chrysler Group LLC “Corporation of the Year” for 2012, citing the Company’s outstanding commitment to supplier diversity and, particularly, the inclusion of Hispanic-owned businesses in its supply base.

The award was announced at the MHCC’s 23rd Annual Fiesta Hispana Gala held the evening of December 7 in Dearborn, Mich.

Chrysler Group’s supplier diversity goals require that 10 percent of a Tier 1 supplier’s procurement buy is sourced to certified minority suppliers. Chrysler Group announced early this year that it spent $2.1 billion with approximately 200 minority suppliers in 2011, representing 8.5 percent of its total annual purchasing. Women-owned businesses, which are tracked separately, accounted for $301 million of the Company’s spending. Overall, the Company purchased $31 billion in direct and indirect parts, materials and services in 2011. Since 1983, the Company has purchased more than $47 billion from minority-owned suppliers.

“Chrysler Group remains as committed as ever to creating a diverse and sustainable supply base that directly reflects our customer base,” said Kevin L. Bell, Senior Manager, Diversity Supplier Development, Chrysler Group LLC, who accepted the award on behalf of the Company. “Chrysler Group will continue to create opportunities for minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses because diversity is in the DNA of our Company. Our goal is a well-developed, diverse supply chain that is inclusive to all.”

In October, Bell received the Minority Supplier Development Leader of the Year Award from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) “in recognition of his exceptional leadership in improving the overall participation of Asian, African American, Hispanic and Native American suppliers in the Company’s global corporate supply chain.” In the same month, Bell also was named the 2012 “National Advocate of the Year” by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council for his leadership in promoting the growth of minority supplier spending and business development at Chrysler Group.

Chrysler Group supports several organizations that assist Tier 1 suppliers with achieving their minority-owned and women-owned sourcing goals. These organizations also include the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council and the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. In addition, Chrysler Group supports veteran-business ownership through membership with the National Veteran-Owned Business Association.

“Chrysler Group’s commitment to supplier diversity and inclusion is a source of meaningful, sustainable value for the Hispanic community,” said Armando Ojeda, Executive Director, Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Receiving the MHCC’s ‘Corporation of the Year’ award was a well-deserved recognition of Chrysler Group’s commitment to all the communities it serves.”

During his keynote address at the 2011 MHCC Fiesta Hispana, Fred Diaz, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ram Truck Brand and President and Chief Executive Officer, Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC, announced a $50,000 grant from The Chrysler Foundation to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest provider of college financial aid for Latino students. Diaz announced a second $50,000 grant to the HSF, from the Ram Truck brand and The Chrysler Foundation, later in the year during the International Hispanic Network’s gala and awards ceremony in San Antonio, TX.
